Building Evaluation Analysis and Re-Use Options for FDA Building 132

Building evaluation and reuse of a potentially hazardous building requiring programming, infrastructure analysis, and space planning.

The 38,000 gsf building consists of a single-story warehouse attached to a two-story lab/office wing. The building was constructed in 1973 by the Department of Defense for testing the effects of radiation on electronic equipment and components.

Very little information/documentation was available. MAP developed site and building plans after surveying. Site and building systems were evaluated and conceptual options for reuse were proposed. Construction costs were estimated at about $9 million.
The project tasks included:

  • Building and site documentation review;
  • Building survey and generation of floor plans;
  • Site Survey and generation of a site plan;
  • Building Evaluation Report (ASTM E1018-15);
  • Development of alternatives and approaches for building re-use.
